Of course it is a feminist issue.
If it wasn't, the world wouldn't bother talking about it. Right here in SA organisations for equality are against polygamy marriages, claiming that women in such marriages are treated as of less value.
Sometimes i think less research is done by women's rights organisations to find out about these women's feelings (I mean the so called "vulnerable"), therefore, how they view their own marriages. I guess if the three wives of our president JZ were not benefiting from their marriage, be it financially or emotionally, they would have sought help to be out of the marriage. To me they seem to be comfortable and not even embarrassed to travel around the world and attend some of the high profile events. We all seen it in the media.
Moreover, most women in polygamy marriages have chosen to be their. This is also because of their desire for material possession.
Polygamy will cease to be feminist, only when media and women's rights organisations see things from the polygamist point of view.
What do you say?

ReplyDeleteI believe its the status on top of emotional fulfillment for the wives or even perhaps the financial or support but I don't see it beneficial form both sides.
